Stefan Konstanty Myszkiewicz-Niesiołowski ( [ˈstɛfan ɲeɕɔˈwɔfskʲi] ? / I , born February 4, 1944 in Kałęczew ) is a Polish scientist and politician. He was a member of Solidarność and from 2007 to 2011 Vice Marshal of the Sejm . Audio file / audio sample

Life

Niesiołowski studied biology and geosciences at the University of Łódź . He completed his studies in 1966 and worked as a lecturer at the university. In 1979 he received his doctorate and in 1990 his habilitation followed . Stefan Niesiołowski has held the Chair of Invertebrates and Hydrobiology at the University of Łódź since 1995.

Stefan Niesiołowski is married and has one child.

Political activities

In 1965 he was a co-founder of the secret organization Ruch . This campaigned for the independence of Poland from the Soviet Union and did not accept the People's Republic of Poland as a legal representative of the Poles. He was arrested on June 20, 1970 and sentenced on April 20, 1971 by the Warsaw Voivodeship Court to 7 years in prison for preparing for the violent abolition of the socialist system. On September 24, 1974, he was released early from custody due to an amnesty. In 1975 he was one of the signatories of a letter to the Sejm, who opposed the constitutional amendment, which was supposed to constitutionalize socialism, the leading role of the party and friendship with the USSR. In 1977 he joined the Ruch Obrony Praw Człowieka i Obywatela ( Movement for the Protection of Human and Civil Rights ) and became the author of the independent magazine Opinia ( Opinion ). In 1980 he became a member of Solidarność and was a founding member of the trade union's works committee at the University of Łódź. On December 13, 1981, the day martial law was declared , he was arrested and interned in a camp in Jaworze near Kalisz Pomorski . His detention ended on December 1, 1982.

After the political change in Poland , he was from the list of Solidarność representatives in the Sejm from 1989 to 1991 . In 1989 he was also a founding member of the Zjednoczenie Chrześcijańsko-Narodowe ( Christian National Union ). For this he was then from 1991 to 1993 and from 1997 to 2001 for Akcja Wyborcza Solidarność in the Polish parliament. In 2005 he became a member of the newly founded Platforma Obywatelska ( Citizens' Platform ) and from 2005 to 2007 a member of the Senate . In the early parliamentary elections in 2007 and the parliamentary elections in 2011 , he ran for the citizens' platform in the constituency 8 of Zielona Góra and was able to win one mandate each .

Awards

The Polish government-in-exile awarded Niesiołowski the award of Knight of the Order of Polonia Restituta .
