Stefan Okonek

Stefan Okonek (born June 25, 1942 in Göttingen ) is a German toxicologist, emeritus professor of medicine and former head of the Mainz poison control center.

Life

After completing his studies, Okonek received his doctorate in 1968 and worked as a doctor and research assistant at the 2nd Medical Clinic and Polyclinic of the University of Mainz in the 1970s. He completed his habilitation in 1977 and was appointed professor at the University of Mainz in the same year.

Okonek specialized in poisoning and in 1973 became head of the poison information center at the University of Mainz.

In the 1980s, Okonek was asked several times by the media as an expert on the health dangers of leather sprays, about which he also published a specialist article.

In 2003 he emigrated to Malaysia.
