Stefan aus dem Siepen (* 1964 in Essen ) is a German lawyer , diplomat and writer .

Live and act

Stefan von dem Siepen was born in Essen in 1964, studied law in Munich and then entered the diplomatic service. After stops in Bonn , Luxembourg , Shanghai and Moscow , he moved to Berlin, where he has been working in the Foreign Office since 2009.

His debut novel, published in 2006, was Luftschiff , followed by The Deciphering of Butterflies in 2008 .

His third novel Das Seil was published in June 2012. It triggered a lot of press coverage and made it onto the SPIEGEL bestseller list. Translations of Das Seil have been published in France, Italy and South Korea.

In 2014 the author published his fourth novel, The Giant , which has also been translated into French and Korean. In 2015, a volume with brief reflections and anecdotes followed under the title Das Buch der Unutungen, and in 2018 the first volume of stories, Recordings of a Beetle Collector. Since 2016, the magazine Cicero has published a monthly column entitled The Flaneur, Stefan aus dem Siepens .

Stefan from Siepen currently lives with his family in Potsdam .
