Steffen Butz (born January 14, 1964 in Frankenthal (Pfalz) ) is a German cartoonist .

Life

Born on January 14, 1964 in Frankenthal / Pfalz, grew up in Ludwigshafen a. Rh., Has lived in Karlsruhe since 1998. Butz studied art history and archeology from 1986 to 1989 and graphic design from 1991 to 1995. He has been a cartoonist since 1991.

Cartoons by Steffen Butz were a. a. published in Stern , Journal for Wife, Girlfriend, Do it yourself, Börsenblatt and Laviva. He was best known for his bear cartoons, published by the publishers Fackelträger, Lappan, Eichborn, Korsch, Incognito. For the children's page of the daily newspaper “Die Rheinpfalz” he designed and drawn the figure Nils Nager , a beaver who has since become the newspaper's well-known mascot. He also draws cartoon-like illustrations for the geography school book series Terra by Ernst Klett Verlag , illustrated for Duden school exercise books, for which he developed the character Diego Dachs , and language calendars for Harenberg Verlag . In 2015, Butz received first prize at the German Cartoon Prize from Carlsen Verlag and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
