Steffen Harzer (born August 28, 1960 in Eisfeld ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). From 1996 to 2014 he was mayor of the district town of Hildburghausen and from 2014 to 2019 a member of the Thuringian state parliament .

Life

After attending school, Steffen Harzer initially completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker until 1980 , which was followed by a degree in mechanical engineering. In addition, he graduated in 1998 as an administrative specialist. He initially worked as a production engineer and manager of utilities. He was then chairman of the main staff council in the Thuringian Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and then chairman of the staff council in the state hospital for psychiatry and neurology in Hildburghausen.

Harzer is the father of four children.

Harzer joined the SED in 1980 and eventually joined Die Linke through its successor parties. Since 2010 he has been a member of the party's federal executive committee. He was a member of the Hildburghausen city ​​council from 1994 to 1996 and again from June to December 2014, the district council of the Hildburghausen district since 1990. From 1996 to 2014 he was mayor of Hildburghausen, making him the first PDS mayor of a Thuringian district town.

In the state elections in Thuringia in 2014 , he won a mandate in the Thuringian state parliament via the state list. In the state parliament he is the spokesman for energy policy and climate protection for the parliamentary group DIE LINKE. In the 2017 federal elections , Harzer ran unsuccessfully in the constituency of Suhl - Schmalkalden-Meiningen - Hildburghausen - Sonneberg . After the result of the state elections in Thuringia in 2019 , he left parliament.
