Montana sextet

Montana Sextet was a music project of the American producer , arranger , composer and vibraphonist Vincent Montana, Jr. (born February 12, 1928 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; † April 13, 2013 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey ), which was also known as Montana and Montana Orchestra released phonograms .

biography

Stylistically, Montana, Jr. used for this project, in which u. a. the trumpeter Joey Lattanz took part in the areas of jazz , soul , funk , disco and ultimately even Euro Disco and Garage House . In 1976 the song # 1 Dee Jay was released , in which Montana's daughter, the disco singer Denise Montana, could be heard. The two musicians later worked together under the name Goody Goody.

The single Heavy Vibes made it into the British charts in 1983 and climbed to number 59. In addition, the song, just like the follow-up single Who Needs Enemies (With a Friend Like You) , which was characterized by Montana's vibraphone playing and the voice of singer Nadiyah, successful in discos .

Already on the 1983 Montana Orchestra album Heavy Vibes was a cover version of the 1979 Christopher Cross hit Ride Like the Wind . In 1991 the Montana Sextet released a new disc version of this song, which was number 39 on the Swiss charts in January 1992 and, like Who Needs Enemies , was sung by Nadiyah.
