Stegastein viewpoint with the Aurlandsfjord in the background

Stegastein is a lookout point in the municipality of Aurland in Norway . It is located on the Snøveg road about six kilometers from the center of Aurlandsvangen .

A viewing ramp leads from a parking lot over the treetops and offers a view of the lower-lying village of Aurlandsvangen and the Aurlandsfjord . The ramp is 4 meters wide and 30 meters long and is 640 meters above the sea . The construction appears as a wooden structure, but is actually a steel structure clad with larch wood. The end of the platform is closed by an outwardly inclined pane of glass, which reinforces the impression of standing directly above the Aurlandsfjord.

Access is possible all year round, as Snøveg is only closed in winter above Stegastein.

The opening took place in June 2006.
