Prototype of a standing aid for aircraft seating

The standing aid belongs to the family of work chairs. The seat has a raised position and is usually smaller in size than normal chairs. The standing aid relieves people at standing workstations and prevents consequential damage from continuous standing.

properties

A standing aid is higher than a normal chair, ergonomically shaped and can be individually adapted to the height of the respective user and the preferred seat angle. The standing aid is stable and does not impair freedom of movement.

The structure of the seat is wide and has a rounded front edge to avoid pressure points. The foot of the standing aid can consist of a flat or a rounded surface. In the latter case, the muscles are strengthened through a constant, unconscious balancing movement.

Intended use

The aim is to prevent pain and illnesses that affect the whole body through one-sided stress when standing for a long time. This can prevent shoulder , back and neck pain as well as joint wear on the knees and deformation of the feet. Furthermore, the circulation of the blood circulation is supported and the spine is relieved by changes in posture. Since the use of the seat height reduces the working height, the posture of the arms and hands also changes, so that relief takes place here too. Overall, the body is relieved of up to 60% of its own body weight when using the standing aid. The relief leads to an improved ability to concentrate.

Place of use

Standing aids are used in places where long standing is required. This includes activities in the laboratory , in production and in the service area. In the office, standing aids are used in conjunction with height-adjustable desks .
