Lauster quarry (Krastal)
The Lauster quarry in the Krastal is a marble quarry that also serves as an event location.
History of the quarry
The Lauster quarry had its roots in Bad Cannstatt , where primarily Cannstatt travertine was mined and processed. After the end of the Second World War, Lauster also opened up marble mining areas in Carinthia and East Tyrol . Lauster Steinbau GmbH is still mining marble in the Krastal today.
Symposia and exhibitions
At the 2009 Krastal Sculpture Symposium and the 42nd Sculpture Symposium , the Krastal marble from the quarry was used for numerous sculptures. In July 2010 the quarry was the scene of the symposium keen on experimenting of the 43rd sculpture symposium in Krastal. But sculpture symposiums and exhibitions had already taken place in the quarry before. For example, Max M. Seibald's exhibition Traffic Session II 2003 was on view in the Lauster quarry and Sonja Hollauf showed her works here in 2004.
theatre
The quarry has also served as a natural backdrop for theater performances since 2005. 2007 was here Gegendtaler Passion of Gerhard Reichmann first performed in 2009 and 2010 was Nathan the Wise to see the quarry Lauster. In 2011 and 2012 Manfred Lukas-Luderer staged Faust in the Lauster quarry. In 2013 another piece of world literature followed. The Broken Jug by Heinrich von Kleist was performed. The venue offers space for 300–400 spectators. In 2014, the director and actor Manfred Lukas-Luderer staged the life of Galilei by Bertolt Brecht against the backdrop of the quarry.
