The Steiner Ruderclub is an Austrian rowing club based in the Stein district of the city of Krems an der Donau . It was founded on November 24th, 1876, making it one of the oldest rowing clubs in Austria . In 1926 the construction of today's boathouse began.

history

In 1936 two canoeists from the Steiner Rowing Club won medals at the Olympic Games in Berlin : Gregor Hradetzky won gold over the distance of 1000 m as well as over the distance of 10,000 m in a single kayak, Fritz Landertinger won the silver medal in a single kayak Distance of 10,000 m. However, the two athletes were unable to repeat their Olympic success due to the Second World War . It was not until the early 1950s that the Steiner Rowing Club was completely rebuilt and restored, but in 1954 a flood of the Danube caused great damage to the boathouse and the boats. In 1975 the route of the B3 was relocated under the Mauterner Danube bridge located directly next to the boathouse , which made it necessary to move the house by means of a crane by half its width towards the Danube. In 1991, the flood of the Danube caused further damage to the clubhouse.

The Steiner Rowing Club from 1876 has Austrian champions in several categories.
