The stone box at the Waldkater is a small stone box grave of the end-Neolithic bell beaker culture (2500–2200 BC) on the edge of the Dölauer Heide in Halle (Saale) . It was discovered in 1930 during afforestation work and archaeologically examined.

location

The stone box is located on the eastern edge of the Dölauer Heide, about 70 m northeast of the eponymous restaurant "Waldkater". There are numerous other prehistoric graves in the vicinity. From the Dölauer Heide a total of 36 burial mounds with burials of different cultures of the Neolithic and the Early Bronze Age are known in several places . About 750 m east of the stone box at the Waldkater is the Kröllwitz burial mound crowned by a menhir .

The box has a length of 1.3 m and a width of 0.9 m. It had two capstones and the gaps between the stone slabs were filled with small stones and covered with white clay. Skeletal remains were not found; because of the small size of the box, the dead man was probably buried in the stool position. Some ornate fragments of a bell- shaped beaker were preserved from the grave goods .
