The stone box from Essen-Kupferdreh is a grave complex from the Neolithic Age in Essen-Kupferdreh . It was discovered in 1937 during construction work on the Hinsbeck flak barracks, which later became the Ruhrland barracks , now a residential area in Dilldorfer Höhe . It was located “under the floor” with a granite boulder about 1.9 meters by 1.5 meters as a capstone. The supporting stones made of gneiss slabs also served as the wall lining of the chamber with dimensions of 1.5 meters by 1.2 meters. It was empty, only on the north side were the remains of a screed made of clay mixed with some charcoal. The small size of the burial chamber indicates a possible stool burial. Cremation cannot be ruled out either. A heaped hill was not observed.

Similar systems are known from Central Europe, in particular from Brittany. The stone box by Kupferdreh shows parallels to the graves of the Baalberg and Salzmünder cultures , but most closely to the Walternienburg culture . The typological comparison allows a dating of the Essen stone setting within the European funnel cup culture around the middle of the 3rd millennium BC. Chr. To.

The facility was relocated and re-erected in 1983 on Rodberger Straße, but later changed inappropriately, so that it now looks like a dolmen .
