Domarring from Hjortebakken

The Domarring of Hjortebakken is located on a flat hill 3.0 km west of the building stones in Gryet in the parish of Bodilsker on the Danish island of Bornholm .

The hill, which is located in a dense forest area, can hardly be seen. The stone circle ( also called Dommerring in Danish ) is located in a forest clearing, made of a few large and many smaller stones. In Denmark domar rings are only known from Bornholm. However, they are common in Skåne . The menhirs at Hjortebakken were placed under protection in 1878. The site investigated in 1956, which is also described as a collection of 19 building stones , was used for cremations in the late Iron Age , but bones were also found. This type of burial place is known from southern Sweden, but not preserved in the rest of Denmark.

The Hjortebakken ( German  "Hirschhügel" ) got its name from the shooting of Bornholm's last stag in 1785. This happened after the Danish king gave up his deer hunting privilege due to the minimized population on the island.
