Ramsdale Stone Circle

The Bronze Age stone circle of Ramsdale is located on Fylingdales Moor, west of Ramsdale, about three kilometers southwest of Robin Hood's Bay , near Whitby in North Yorkshire in England . The three remaining stones are to the east of a round hill, on a gentle southeast slope, which they named "Standing Stones Rigg". About 100 meters away, the land drops steeply into the valley formed by the Ramsdale Beck.

What has been preserved is an isosceles triangle made up of three boulders. The northern stone in lies outside the circle level. It is 1.48 m wide and 0.62 m thick and would stand about 2.07 meters high, while the other two, each 5.5 meters away, in the west and east have a height of 1.4 meters. The western stone is 0.94 m wide and 0.38 m thick. The stocky one in the east is 1.08 m wide and 0.44 m thick. All three show weathering. The stones have been a Scheduled Monument since 1934

It is not known whether there were ever more than three stones here, but it is likely that at least one stone is missing for a four-post stone circle (also known as the sky stone circle ) or several stones for a real stone circle . No excavations have been made, so little is known about the three stones. Alternatively, the stones could be the remains of a curb chain around a lost burial mound .
