Stannon Stone Circle
The Stannon Stone Circle is located in Bodmin Moor , on the slopes of the Dinnever Hills, southeast of Camelford in Cornwall , England . Stannon takes its name from the nearby farm.
The approximately 42.6 × 40.5 meter, slightly oval stone circle contains 47 upright, 30 lying, two offset and four about 80 m distant stones ( English outlier ) that look like shark teeth. Their average height is 0.5 meters. The largest stone in the group has a base width of over 1.2 meters. Like Fernacre, Stannon is an example of a circle flattened on the north side (Alexander Thoms Type A). The circle dates from the Late Neolithic or the Early Bronze Age . Aubrey Burl explains that he may be older than other circles in the southern moor area.
There are several stone circles on Bodmin Moor including Fernacre , Stripple stones , The Hurlers and the Trippet stones .
