The stone rows of Kerzerho are in the municipality of Erdeven , in the Morbihan department in Brittany in France .

Rows of stones from 1832

description

They were badly damaged by the construction of the D781 (road) between Erdeven and Quiberon . Before that, they formed an ensemble of thousands of stones that was two kilometers long and 65 meters wide. Today the remains of the multiple alignment can be seen one kilometer south of Erdeven.

Coming from the north there are some large menhirs to the right of the road , one of which is decorated with plant engravings. This is probably the remains of a stone circle . To the left of the street, up to 10 parallel rows in east-west alignment have been preserved in places. The most impressive is the complementary, north-facing row of beautiful menhirs, one of which is called the "sacrificial altar" lying on the ground. About 20 menhirs at the end of the avenue are particularly noteworthy, their height exceeds the Carnac stones and reaches over six meters.

The alignments have been written about for two centuries. The first discovered and described by Felix Royer de La Sauvagere (1755) show an orientation towards sunrise, which is why he adopted a cult of the stars.

Vieux Moulin

Further south, some minor alignments are noteworthy. The six great menhirs of Vieux Moulin east of the road and the menhirs of Sainte-Barbe are remnants of what were once more extensive structures.

Les Geants de Kerzerho

The giant from Kerzerho

The north-south oriented row begins about 100 meters north of the Kerzerho alignments. It is not a straight line and there are also lying stones (La Table du Sacrifice). Most are 6.0 to 7.0 meters tall, higher than the Kerzerho alignments.

Nearby is the Botlann dolmen .
