Steinstrasse was a municipality in the Jülich district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It was on the B55 between Cologne and Jülich . On January 1, 1972, the community, which was named as Lich-Steinstrasse , was incorporated into Niederzier .

The community had an area of 18.48 km². In the censuses it had a total of 1560 inhabitants on June 6, 1961 and 1546 inhabitants on May 27, 1970. On the day before the incorporation, December 31, 1971, there were still 1504 people living there.

Today the former municipality is a desert . In the years from 1981 to 1990, the place had to give way to the northern area of the Hambach opencast mine . Part of the location of Lich still exists, but is located directly on the northern edge of the open pit. The Steinstrasse south of this ridge was completely excavated. In 2006 the Rheinbraun tipped over the remaining locality of Lich overburden. Only parts of the Prämienstraße, which leads in the direction of Rödingen, and a small remainder of the Herrenstraße are visible.

The relocation to the new location in Lich-Steinstrasse in the east of the city of Jülich took place between 1981 and 1991. The development borders directly on Jülich.
