Stenbock Palace

The Stenbocksche Palais (Swedish Stenbockska palatset ) at Birger Jarls Torg 4 on the island of Riddarholmen in Stockholm was built in 1640 for Fredrik Stenbock and his wife Catharina De la Gardie in the Renaissance style. In 1670 his son Johan Gabriel Stenbock had the palace built by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. Ä. Modernize in the style of the Roman Baroque , Carl Hårleman was responsible for the interior design .

In 1773 the Swedish state acquired the palace and housed the National Archives there. 1969–1971 the palace was extensively renovated.
