The dolmen Stensbjerggård Langdysse is located near Ålflasker south of Vorbasse and northwest of Bække in Billund Municipality in Jutland, Denmark .

The large stone grave, almost 65 meters long and 8 to 10 meters wide, has never been archaeologically examined and is one of the few megalithic structures of the funnel beaker culture (TBK) from the Neolithic period that have survived in the region . Between 3500 and 2800 BC The east-west orientated dolmen is located on the edge of a protected moor landscape.

In the megalithic bed , framed by around 70 curbs, there are remains of three transverse extended dolmens . They are at each end and in the middle of the hill. There are no traces of originally round burial mounds from earlier times that have been converted into long mounds. The chambers at Stensbjergård have no corridors and were mainly intended for single use, the oldest form of facility use. Only from around 3200 BC Facilities built in the 4th century were planned for multiple burials. The chambers were accessed from the south through narrow openings between the chamber stones.

The chambers were looted for their grave goods, and many of their stones were removed to build roads and churches. Therefore the capstone of the eastern chamber is missing, that of the middle one is rolled off. In the western chamber, the capstone is still in situ on the chamber made up of six bearing stones.

The dolmen was placed under protection in 1896 by an agreement between the owner and the National Museum .

Remarks

  1. Langdysse is the common denomination in Denmark for dolmens that lie in a rectangular or trapezoidal barn bed, in contrast to that, Runddysser are those dolmens that lie in a round hill.
