Stephan Brodmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stephan Brodmann (* 1640 in Immenstaad ; † 1715 there ) was a German Catholic priest . With his will he established a foundation for the youth and the poor in his home town of Immenstaad on Lake Constance.

Life

Stephan Brodmann was chaplain of the Franciscan convent in Oggelsbeuren (today in Attenweiler , Biberach district) until the end of his life . His work is honored in the Oggelsbeurer local chronicle.

Foundation, endowment

In 1703 Stephan Brodmann wrote a will, which he added several times over the following years. In it he bequeathed his entire property (with a few exceptions), ie his parents' house, his lands and his money to a foundation that was to be established in Immenstaad immediately after his death. As a beneficiary of the foundation, he committed the youth and the poor from Immenstaad:

"... especially for the benefit of the poor and the dear young people; ... all citizens of Immenstaad, old, young, minors, men and women who are honest, devoted to a good and laudable name and the Catholic religion; .. By no means the healthy, idle, strong beggars, but all those who do not have fifty ducats in wealth, but seek and get their food with sweat and work. "
Foundation coat of arms

A large part of his will contains precise economic and legal regulations about the foundation. The foundation should also have a coat of arms : "... a crane bird , standing on one foot, holding a stone in the claws of the other foot."

The foundation was realized with Stephan Brodmann's death in 1715. Many of the poor and young people of Immenstaad owe their support to her, and the pupils not only received a school building (the parental home that stood opposite today's community center before the demolition), but also freedom of teaching and learning materials for more than two hundred years.

After the foundation was abolished a few years ago (as of 2005), an association was formed that wants to preserve the memory of Stephan Brodmann, probably the most important benefactor of Immenstaad, and to maintain the tradition of his foundation, but limited to the awarding of prizes to hard-working students, who also take part in the life of the Catholic parish .

The coat of arms, which used to be placed above the entrance of the old school building on Meersburger Strasse, today reminds of the school's namesake in the stairwell of the Stephan Brodmann School in Immenstaad.
