Stephan Frei

Stephan Frei (* 1966 ) is a German professor and dean of the faculty for electrical engineering and information technology at the Technical University of Dortmund .

Life

Frei began studying electrical engineering with a focus on theoretical electrical engineering at the University of Saarbrücken , then moved to the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin), where he graduated in 1995 with a diploma. In 1999 he also received his doctorate there .

After completing his doctorate, Frei worked between 1995 and 1999 as a research assistant at the Institute for Electrical Energy Technology at the TU Berlin, where he developed simulation methods for electromagnetic compatibility and electrostatic discharges . After working as a research assistant, he switched to the automotive industry, where he worked as a project manager in the field of EMC and antenna development.

In 2006, Frei accepted a call at the Technical University of Dortmund , where he heads the “On-Board Systems” division and is dedicated to the simulation of electrical vehicle components. In 2014 Frei was elected dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

Between 2008 and 2009 he was a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE EMC Society. In addition, he has authored or co-authored over 150 scientific publications. Frei works in various national and international standardization groups.
