Stephan Pastis (* 1968 in San Marino , California ) is an American comic artist , best known for his comic series Pearls Before Swine . This series is about two friends - a megalomaniac and precocious rat and a less intelligent pig. The two allow the reader a mostly cynical view of their everyday life and that of their animal friends.

Stephan Pastis studied political science at Berkeley University . Since the chances of newspaper printing are generally poor in the USA , he went to the UCLA School of Law after graduating and became a lawyer. He held this position until 2002.
