Stephen Dhieu Dau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stephen Dhieu Dau is a South Sudanese politician. He is the first oil and mining minister in his country since the split of South Sudan from Sudan (as of January 2012).

Dau led the negotiations with Sudan on the distribution of the funds that are generated by oil production. The negotiations were carried out with the mediation of the African Union (AU). While 75 percent of the oil wells are in South Sudan, it relies on Sudan's pipelines to sell the oil. At the end of January 2012, Dhieu Dau imposed a complete ban on oil deliveries because the two states could not agree on the transit fees.
