Stephen Dudley Field

Stephen Dudley Field (born January 31, 1846 in Stockbridge (Massachusetts) , † May 18, 1913 there ) was an American inventor.

He constructed a telegraph, and for the first time successfully used dynamos. He also constructed an electric elevator and a floor ticker.

In 1874 he installed the first electric tram in New York. In this connection he got into a patent dispute with Edison and Siemens.

He had over 200 patents, a large number of which he sold to General Electric and Westinghouse in 1896.
