Stephen Fox

Stephen Fuchs (born April 30, 1908 in Bruck an der Mur ; † January 17, 2000 in Mödling ) was an Austrian anthropologist , sociologist , folklorist and missionary who lived in India for over sixty years. He belonged to the Catholic missionary order of the Steyler Missionaries .

Stephen Fuchs came to Indore in central India in 1934, where, after studying language, he devoted himself to research into the tribes. In his Rebellious Prophets (1965) he examined messianic movements in Indian religions.

He was the founder of the Institute of Indian Culture in Mumbai .

He also learned Hindi and Korku languages. He also learned the local dialects of Madhya Pradesh .
