Death certificate
The death certificate certifies the death of a person as well as the place and time of death.
In Germany, the death certificate is issued by the registry offices ; an original is included in the civil status register. The basis for the issuance of a death certificate entries in the register of deaths (up to 31 December 2008 death register ) of the register office .
The death certificate includes:
- the first name and surname of the deceased, place and day of his or her birth as well as his legal affiliation to a religious community (if affiliation is evident from the entry in the register),
- the last place of residence and the marital status of the deceased,
- Place and time of death.
Death certificates are usually required for the probate court for the application for a certificate of inheritance as well as for pension applications and other insurance benefits. For other purposes, such as the termination of contracts, simple copies of the death certificate are usually sufficient.
