Frank Marth is a German guitarist, singer and songwriter.

Life

In the 1970s Marth was employed as a stage musician at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. During this time he also played in local bands such as P. Blitz or Curth Comet, the Lilac Angels, and founded the short-lived Hamburg band Heavy Jelly with Jürgen Graf and Bernd Renn . He then became a member of the equally short-lived Duisburg City Rock'n'Roll Allstars, who recorded the first Sternhagel single in 1980 for the Düsseldorf Rondo label . Between 1979 and 1981 a collaboration developed with Xaõ Seffcheque ( Family 5 ), in which the fake sampler Very good comes very well and various singles were produced.

On the occasion of the Oberhausen / Düsseldorf Short Film Festival, the Da Capo Movie Band was founded in 1980, made up of jazz and rock musicians, actors and pantomimes. Today a prominent member was Helge Schneider . The band had numerous radio and television appearances in Germany and other European countries until 1987, but did not release any records. 1982 Marth played in the New Wave film trucks War of Horst Koenigstein with.

Hail of stars

Marth then produced with Herwig Mitteregger , with CBS, the Fabrik Rakete and the Spliff Studio the LP Sternhagel comes , which came out in 1982 on CBS . The studio line-up included Bernd Renn (bass), Jürgen Dahmen (keyboards and percussion), Mitteregger on drums and guests from the Berlin scene. The first single was Fahrradfahr'n , which, however, sold poorly, as did the LP production. The project was then abandoned.

After that Marth continued to work as a guitarist, singer, composer and musical assistant and was involved in the productions of the Düsseldorf band Reflexx. Today he works as a guitarist, guitar teacher and band coach.

style

Sternhagel's music and lyrics are an ambiguous game with expectations and clichés of pop and rock music, which he uses to proclaim his special view of things in an ironic and clownish manner. Familiar, common music styles are broken with texts that sometimes come across as naive as children's songs ( Eskimo , Fahrradfahr'n ), sneaky, grotesque, melancholy ( Hauruck , King Kong , free beer ), almost visionary, describing the media mechanisms of the Gulf Wars in advance in war .
