The observatory Diedorf is one of a amateur astronomical association - the Astronomical Association Augsburg - supervised observatory . It is located on the grounds of the primary and secondary school in the municipality of Diedorf , about ten kilometers west of Augsburg .

history

In 1965 the “Astronomical Association Augsburg e. V. ”founded by a group of amateur astronomers. The aim of the association was to make astronomy accessible to a broader public. The number of members increased in the following years and the desire arose to build an observatory, for which the financial means were initially lacking.

When the community of Diedorf was planning to build a new school, with the support of the community, the city of Augsburg and donations from the population, an observatory was built on the school grounds, which was opened in 1975. The observatory's telescopes are housed in a 100 square meter observation platform with a sliding roof. A planetarium has been set up in which the starry sky is not projected, but is represented by means of light-emitting diodes . The summer or winter night sky can be displayed in the planetarium.

The Diedorf observatory regularly offers public sky observations and astronomical lectures.

The Astronomical Association Augsburg supervises the guided tours at the observatory, is active in the field of astrophotography and publishes its own magazine - "URANUS".

Instruments

A Newtonian telescope with a mirror diameter of 45 centimeters and a focal length of two meters , an H-alpha protuberance telescope , a computer-controlled Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with an aperture of 30 centimeters and a Coudé refractor with an aperture of 15 centimeters and a focal length of 2.7 meters are used for observation .
