The Sterrett Islands are a small group of islands off the Walgreen coast of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . In the Amundsen Sea they are 8 km northwest of the Edwards Islands and 8 km west of the Canisteo Peninsula .
Aerial photographs of the United States Navy's VX-6 squadron from January 1960 were used for its training. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in the same year after James McAnlis Sterrett (1906-1975), biologist on the second Antarctic expedition (1933-1935) of the US polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd .
