In fluid technology , especially in hydraulics , a proportional valve is a collective term for usually electrically controlled directional control valves , which do not switch discretely ( open / close), but allow a constant transition between the switching positions. The volume flow of the fluid can thus be adjusted. A distinction is made here between:

• Proportional valve
• Control valve
• Servo valve
