The Szczecin Bay , also Stetin Bay , (in the German colonial era Stettinerbucht is called) a bay on the north coast of New Britain to the east of willaumez peninsula in the province of West New Britain Province of Papua New Guinea .
The bay belongs to the Bismarcksee and is about 35 km wide and about 25 km deep. Offshore coral reefs block a large part of the access to the bay. To the northwest of the bay are the islands of Garua Island , Schaumann Island and Restorff Island .
The bay is part of Kimbe Bay , a much larger bay that extends from the Willaumez Peninsula in the west to the island of Duportail in the east of New Britain. The capital of the province and ninth largest city in Papua New Guinea, Kimbe is located on the coast in the western part of Szczecin Bay .
