The Kimbe Bay is a large bay on the north coast of New Britain , the west of the willaumez peninsula and east of the island Duportail is limited. It is located in the West New Britain Province of Papua New Guinea .

The bay belongs to the Bismarcksee and is about 110 km wide and about 60 km deep. To the northwest of the bay are the islands of Garua Island , Schaumann Island and Restorff Island . Furthermore, the coast of Kimbe Bay forms other smaller bays, such as Stettin Bay , Commodore Bay and Bangula Bay . The provincial capital and ninth largest city in Papua New Guinea, Kimbe, which gives Kimbe Bay its name, is located on the coast in the western part of Stettin Bay .

Due to the offshore coral reefs , the bay is an important place of biodiversity . The bay belongs to the so-called coral triangle and 60% of the coral species occurring in the Indo-Pacific zone are native here, as are many species of marine fish that live in reefs. Because of its beauty, Kimbe Bay is also a popular diving spot.

Due to the massive death of corals worldwide due to pollution, global warming and other human activities, the coral population in Kimbe Bay has increased in importance as it is considered one of the last refuge for coral. Efforts are currently being made to limit the human impact on the bay.
