Steve Carney

Steve Carney (born September 22, 1957 in Wallsend , † May 6, 2013 ) was an English football player . The defender has worked for Newcastle United , Carlisle United , Darlington FC , Rochdale AFC and Hartlepool United .

Steve Carney was initially an electrician and played part-time soccer for the West Bromwich Albion . In 1979 Steve Carney moved from the Blyth Spartans to Newcastle United . In Carney's first game on December 1, Newcastle United won 2-0 against Fulham FC in the Football League Second Division 1979/80 . In 1985 Carney left Newcastle United and joined Darlington FC . While playing soccer part time, Steve became a successful businessman in the real estate market . After Steve stopped playing football, he was the managing director of UK home sales for 13 years . In January 2011, Carney offered to work as a personal fitness trainer . After it became known on February 16, 2013 that Steve Carney had developed pancreatic cancer , he died after a brief battle with the disease on May 6, 2013 at the age of 55.
