Steve Coast (Stephen Philip Coast; born December 20, 1980 ) is the founder of OpenStreetMap and CloudMade .

Life

Coast grew up in Walderslade and London . Here he first worked as an intern at Wolfram Research before starting his computer science studies at University College London . Together with Nick Black , he founded the technology consultancy ZXV Ltd in 2006 . In 2008 he moved to San Francisco . After an investment by Nikolaj Nyholm and Sunstone Capital, ZKV became CloudMade in 2008. In 2009 he moved with his wife Hurricane Coast to Denver ( Colorado ). In October 2010, Coast quit CloudMade, but is still a shareholder. In November 2010, Steve Coast announced that he would work at Microsoft as Principal Architect in the future.

Microsoft finally retired Steve Coast in November 2010, according to Bing. In return, the OpenStreetMap community was given the aerial photos by Bing (but specifically not the map data) for mapping.

On September 3, 2013, Steven Coast announced on his blog that he was now working for Telenav . There he supported the development of the OSM-based Scout Navigator. In January 2016, he left Telenav and became a consultant at Navmii . In March he was recruited by what3words .
