Steven C. Hayes (* 1948 ) is an American psychologist and psychotherapy researcher. He is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno . He is known for his language and cognitive analyzes ( Relational Frame Theory ) and their implications for the understanding and therapy of numerous psychological disorders ( acceptance and commitment therapy ).

Act

Hayes graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 1970 with a BA (Bachelor of Arts) in psychology. In 1974 he received his MA (Master of Arts) in clinical psychology from West Virginia University , and in 1977 he received his Ph.D.

Hayes served as president of Division 25 of the American Psychological Association , the American Association of Applied and Preventive Psychology, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. He was the first secretary and chief financial officer of the Association for Psychological Science , which he helped shape.

He is the author of 38 books and 550 articles. Based on his citation impact , he was included in 1992 by the Institute for Scientific Information in the list of the 30 most influential psychologists in the period 1986–1990.

He is co-organizer and on the board of the Practice Guidelines Coalition, an American project to develop evidence-based therapy guidelines .
