Steven Sogo

Steven Sogo (* 1. April 1983 as Steven Irambona in Bujumbura ) is a Burundian musician .

Life

Sogo was born in Kamenge, a quarter of the then capital Bujumbura . At the age of 14 he started playing guitar and singing. In 1997 he became an active member of the Kamenge Youth Center, where he worked with various bands, before founding his own band "Hope Street" in 2005. He has lived in exile in the United States since 2017.

He sings in Kirundi , Kiswaheli and French and plays ikembe (a lamellophone ), guitar and bass guitar. He draws inspiration from everyday life for his songs. Peace and life after a long civil war are themes in his songs.

Music genre

Sogo plays acoustic music based on traditional Burundian music.
