Steven Spurrier (* 1944 ) is a British wine critic and wine merchant based in Paris .

In 1976 he organized the legendary Paris Wine Jury , which surprisingly shook the myth of the superiority of French wine and which ultimately drove the expansion of viticulture in the New World and ensured higher wine quality worldwide.

He is the founder of the Académie du Vin and founder of wine courses at Christie's . He is also the author and co-author of over a dozen books on wine .

In the film drama Bottle Shock played Alan Rickman the role of Steven Spurrier.
