The Stevinsluizen in the Dutch province of North Holland is the larger of the two tidal barriers in the closing dike of the IJsselmeer . It consists of three similar sewer systems and the passage for shipping. It was built from 1923 to 1932.

Each of the three sewer systems consists of five 12 m wide sewers ( Dutch: spuisluis ). Each sluice has two lift gates. The southern one is the actual gate, which is regularly opened at low tide and closed at high tide. The northern lifting gates are only closed in the event of a storm surge .

The passage for shipping consists of

  • the tide-free inland port on the IJsselmeer side,
  • the 120 m long and 13 m wide chamber lock,
  • the outer harbor, which is dependent on the tide but is still south of the dike
  • the passage through the dike with two swing bridges
  • which only by lateral moles protected Buitenhaven (external port)

The three harbor basins in the course of the passage only serve as waiting areas. In addition to both ends there are also harbor basins with berths, on the IJsselmeer side the Zuiderhaven , on the sea side Noordhaven and Waddenhaven .
