Stewart Greenhalgh (* 1950 in Sydney ) is an Australian geophysicist.

Greenhalgh studied mathematics and physics at the University of Sydney with a bachelor's degree in 1972. He then spent several years in industry before receiving a master's degree in theoretical geophysics at the University of Sydney in 1976. In 1979 he received his PhD in geophysics from the University of Minnesota , where he was a Fulbright Fellow. He also holds a D.Sc. from the University of Sydney.

He was a professor at the University of Adelaide , where he is emeritus professor, and was also visiting professor for two years in 2007 and then honorary professor at ETH Zurich . He was also a visiting scholar at the University of Minnesota, Oxford University and Toronto University. He has been a consultant in the mining and oil industries and for government agencies.

He published over 240 papers on various geophysical topics, for example seismic wave theory, numerical modeling of seismic waves in complex anisotropic media, pore elasticity, geotomography and inverse problems (waveform inversion), seismic signal processing, seismology of earthquakes and seismic risks, seismic studies of Crust and upper mantle, seismic exploration (high-resolution seismics for exploring coal and optimizing mining), ground penetrating radar, geoelectrics (modeling, inversion) and electromagnetic induction, geothermal imaging, gravity gradiometry and magnetic resonance imaging.

In 2012 he received the Mintrop Award and in 2016 the Conrad Schlumberger Award .
