The Steyr 288 is a tractor from the manufacturer Steyr Daimler Puch . It is a model in the anniversary series . 6253 of this 45 hp tractor were built between 1962 and 1966.
engine
The tractor is driven by a Steyr four-cylinder diesel engine type WD 406 with a displacement of 2660 cm³. It is a water-cooled four-stroke engine with pre-chamber injection. It develops 45 DIN HP (33 kW) at a speed of 2400 rpm. The engine achieves its greatest torque at a speed of 1300 rpm. The specific consumption is given as 188 g / PSh (255.6 g / kWh).
transmission
The tractor has a transmission with four gears in two groups. When the tractor is at a standstill, a preselector lever can be used to switch between arable and road groups. A direction selector lever, which can always be operated when the vehicle is stationary, is attached to the gearshift lever, and all gears can be used forwards as well as backwards. Thanks to its transmission, the tractor covers a speed range from 1.65 km / h to 28.7 km / h (both at full load). In order to reduce the weight and size of the gear unit, the speed is further reduced in the area of the axle halves with a planetary gear per axle half. The rear axle differential can be locked using a differential lock.
Brakes
The tractor has mechanical internal shoe brakes that act on the rear wheels. A split brake pedal, which is normally connected by a bracket, can be used to brake the left or right rear wheel separately for steering assistance (steering brake) as required.
PTO
The tractor has a rear PTO and a front PTO. The latter is not arranged at the front of the tractor, as is the case with modern tractors, but in the middle of the vehicle. The rear PTO can be switched as an engine PTO and switched between 540 / min and 1000 / min (in each case at the engine's nominal speed) and used as a ground speed PTO (speed proportional to the wheel speed). The front PTO always runs as an engine PTO with 1000 rpm at the rated engine speed. The power flow to the transmission can be interrupted via a second clutch (multi-plate clutch) (tractor stops, PTO continues to run), which is necessary, for example, when using threshing machines.
As a special feature of the Steyr tractors, the ground speed PTO can also be used at various speeds when the vehicle is stationary. To do this, the PTO is first switched to ground-speed PTO mode and the selector lever for the field group and road group is brought into neutral, which interrupts the flow of power to the rear wheels. The speed and the direction of rotation of the PTO shaft can now be set using the direction selector lever and gear selector lever. For stationary operation, the engine speed can thus be reduced to the most economical range possible. The PTO speed at the rated engine speed (2,400 / min) can thus be selected between approx. 297 / min and 1445 / min.
Front loader
The manufacturer offered a front loader for the tractor. This loader has two single-acting lift cylinders. For unloading, the shovel could be released mechanically using a cable pull.
Rear linkage
The rear linkage can lift loads with a mass of up to 1,600 kg and can be switched between Cat I and Cat II. Adjusting the lifting points enables the lifting load to be increased further. The hoist can be used in the horizontal and floating position. The Bosch hydraulic control system enables the plowing depth to be regulated by means of traction control, which enables greater plowing performance.
