Stitch (length)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The stitch is a measure of length with which the shoemaker specifies the length of the last and thus also the size of the finished shoe. There is the French stitch (also called the Paris stitch ), which is based on the meter , and the English stitch , which is based on the English inch .

In Germany, last sizes were originally specified directly in centimeters, e.g. B. Size 29 ⅓ " , but the use of the French stitch has established itself . Sports shoes are sold in American sizes due to the dominance of American manufacturers.

The stitch is one unit, so it is called stitch 3 (and not 3 stitch s ).

The French stitch is ⅔ centimeters = 6 ⅔ millimeters, so three French stitch equals two centimeters. The French stitch is used as a whole number as the French shoe size .

1 french Stitch = approx. 0.787 engl. Sting

The English stitch is only the basis of the English shoe size system and measures ⅓ "(inch), where

1 in. = 1 "= 112 ft. = 136 yd. = 2.54 cm,

(so about 0.845 cm)

1 English stitch = 1.27 French stitch
