Otto Eckart Foundation

The Otto Eckart Foundation , based in Munich, was founded in 1996. It is recognized as a non-profit organization and supports projects in the social, charitable and cultural fields as well as in nature conservation.

The founder and namesake was the former owner of the Munich Pfanni works and son of the entrepreneur Werner Eckart, who died in 1997 . The latter is the chairman of the Board of Trustees, which has six other members. In 1998, the government of Upper Bavaria granted the foundation legal capacity, which makes it recognized as a non-profit organization. It is a member of the Federal Association of German Foundations .

The tasks and goals of the foundation include:

  • the promotion of child and youth welfare
  • the promotion of cultural maintenance and nature conservation as well
  • the maintenance and operation of the Munich Potato Museum .

A regional focus of the foundation's work is Guatemala , which Otto Eckart represented as honorary consul in the Free State of Bavaria from 1974 . In addition to targeted child and youth welfare, institutions that work to improve education are also supported there. In Bavaria, the foundation supports, among other things, cultural projects and the maintenance of customs.

Since 1999 the foundation has awarded the “Prix International Pour les Enfants”, endowed with € 10,000, annually. It is awarded to private individuals or institutions who have made a contribution to the welfare of children and are willing to use the prize money for a corresponding project.
