Foundation for the Animal in Law
The Foundation for Animals in Law ( TIR ) is a Swiss- based, non-profit organization that emerged in 1995 from the pre-organization "Association of Animal Welfare is Legal Obligation", which was founded in the mid-1980s. Their main concern is the human - animal - relationship in law , ethics and society to improve.
organization
The foundation maintains an office in Zurich . The managing director is Gieri Bolliger, who took over this position from Antoine F. Goetschel in 2007 , when he was working as "lawyer for animal welfare in criminal matters" (animal lawyer).
In his book he describes the foundation as a competence center for questions about animals in law.
Approach and successes
According to its own information, the foundation is active in both legal, educational and advisory roles. In her endeavor to work towards more animal-friendly legislation and more effective enforcement in animal welfare, she writes legal comments, reports and statements on cantonal , federal and international animal welfare law as well as articles in the specialist and daily press on the various aspects of the human-animal relationship.
Successes that the TIR ascribes to its involvement are the removal of animals from the factual status in Swiss law (2003), the inclusion of the protection of animal dignity in the Swiss Animal Welfare Act (2008), the prohibition of sexual acts with animals (2008) and the establishment of the Animal protection law as an independent subject.
TIR also tries to inform the public about the correct legal treatment of animals. She publishes both legal writings for experts and publications for laypeople and gives lectures at conferences and congresses. TIR provides advice seekers with legal advice on everyday animal-related issues. As a matter of principle, she does not take on legal representation in animal welfare cases.
According to its own statements , the foundation owns a library which, with a total of around 15,000 books, specialist articles and electronic documents on animals in law, ethics and society, is intended to be one of the most comprehensive collections of literature on the subject in the German-speaking area. Also integrated into the TIR library are the literature holdings of the "Archive for Ethics in Animal, Nature and Environmental Protection" (AET), which was previously housed in the Badische Landesbibliothek in Karlsruhe and was given to the TIR in 2006 by Gotthard Teutsch. The library also contains a media archive with newspaper and magazine articles on over 200 animal welfare topics.
In addition, the foundation maintains an electronic database with Swiss animal welfare criminal cases reported to the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO), into which over 11,200 (as of 2013) anonymized and systematic decisions were read and whose case material can be accessed on the Internet.
financing
All foundation activities are financed exclusively from donations and project-related grants.
