It is dated to the spring of 1887 (in another source to 1886) when van Gogh was in Paris .

The painting measures 41 × 38 cm and is painted with oil paints on canvas . It is owned by the Von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal . It originally comes from the collection of the banker Eduard von der Heydt and was donated to the city after the Second World War.

description

The picture shows a still life with a coffee pot and a bouquet of flowers in a vase, around which fruit is grouped.

The authenticity of the painting

The authenticity of the painting and of another picture by Van Gogh was questioned as early as 1987 at an exhibition. Doubts about the authenticity of the Still Life with Coffee Pot and Flowers picture go back to 1976.

In May 2008, at the instigation of the museum director Gerhard Finckh, this painting and the still life with jug and pears were given to the experts at the research institute of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam for inspection . The results of this investigation were presented to the press in October 2010. Among other things, X-ray and pigment examinations were initiated during the assessment, the painting technique and the materials used were also examined. The conclusion of the experts was that neither painting is the work of Van Gogh.

However, the painting remains in the Von der Heydt Museum's depot; the press was not given any information about the financial loss in value.
