Stocard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stocard is an app that was developed by the company of the same name. With Stocard, users have been able to save their loyalty cards on their smartphones since 2011 . According to its own information, the app had more than twenty-five million users in mid-2018 and is now available in 42 countries. Stocard is thus the leading mobile wallet in the loyalty sector. Stocard's headquarters are in Mannheim, and since 2016 the company has also had other locations in Italy, the Netherlands, France, Canada and Australia.

Stocard app

The app is free for Android and iOS . With the app, the user can save customer cards and membership cards on the smartphone by scanning the corresponding barcode or entering the customer number. He can then show his smartphone instead of the plastic card at the cash registers of the saved stores and collect discounts. The next big step is to integrate a mobile payment function into the app. At the beginning of 2017, customer cards from over 4,000 companies worldwide were listed in the app. In addition, users can read in and digitize unknown customer cards themselves by scanning the printed barcode.

Companies

Stocard GmbH was founded in 2011 by David Handlos, Björn Goß and Florian Barth, three graduates of the University of Mannheim, during their studies and is financed by Klaas Kersting, the High-Tech Gründerfonds, CD-Venture and Engelhorn-Holding. In March 2016, Stocard acquired Shortcut Ventures, the investment arm of the photo company Cewe and the investment company Alstin von Carsten Maschmeyer, as additional investors. Most recently, the company received further investments from Rocketship.vc, Shortcut Ventures, Alstin and Macquarie in mid-2018. The idea came to the founders due to overcrowded wallets. Stocard's competitors include Yunar, Key Ring, FidMe, mobile pocket and Apple Wallet .

Problem

Loyalty card programs are often criticized because they collect data about their participants and analyze their shopping behavior. With an app like Stocard, targeted advertising can be sent directly to the smartphone. In addition, the customer cards in many shops cannot be scanned from the smartphone screen because the cash registers there are not equipped with image scanner technology. Therefore the employees have to enter the customer numbers there by hand. Scanning the card with a laser scanner is not possible, so that employees have to enter the customer number by hand in such cases.
