The Stockhornbahn is a cable car in the canton of Bern , Switzerland . It leads from Erlenbach in the Simmental to the Stockhorn .

history

In 1953 Max Born acquired the Stockhorn mountain house, and in 1955 he received the concession to build a railway. In 1963 the Erlenbach i. S. - Stockhorn AG with share capital of 3.1 million Swiss francs . In 1965 the share capital was increased, in 1966 further shares were issued. Also in 1966 the valley station, middle station and pillars of the 1st section were completed. The ropeway supplied by Von Roll started operating in the 1st section in 1968, and the 2nd section opened in 1969.

In 1970 the interest on the loans could no longer be paid, in 1971 the overindebtedness was established. In 1972 the new Stockhornbahn AG was founded with share capital of 0.65 francs and the majority shareholder Berner Kantonalbank . In 1974 the newly built Stockhorn restaurant was opened. The Gurnigel – Stockhorn panoramic hiking trail was opened in 1975, the flower educational trail in 1985 and the Hinterstockensee circular trail in 1989.

In 1994 a financial restructuring had to take place because the interest on mortgage debts could not be paid. The entire share capital of Stockhornbahn AG went to the municipality of Erlenbach for new subscription as a public company . The Hinterstocken practice ski lift went into operation in 1997, and the connection to the Chrindi ski area was expanded. After 50 years, the first section of the Stockhornbahn was completely renewed in 2018. New train cabins and drives, a new control system, a new drive and new station saddles led to investments of almost 4 million francs.
