history

Karl Gustav Stollberg, born in Leina in 1821 , after spending several years in Paris , where he was influenced by the ideas of the French Revolution , founded the company "Stollbergsche" in 1847 in the modest business premises of the Hotel Mahr at the cemetery entrance on Langensalzaer Straße in Gotha Book printing and publishing bookstore ". In 1863 the company moved to Schwabhäuser Strasse 32 in the old town. With the publication of an independent newspaper that was in the service of freedom and progress, Stollberg had fulfilled a dream. So he called the "Gothaische Tageblatt" into being, which appeared on April 2nd with the first issue. Until 1866 Stollberg himself was the editor of the paper.

The trained businessman Albin Nehrlich (* 1845; † August 3, 1892) joined the company as a partner on December 1, 1870 and became sole managing director on October 1, 1874. Karl Gustav Stollberg died in 1880. As a result of the expansion of the printing and newspaper publishing operations, another move was necessary in October 1881. A new commercial building was built at Gartenstrasse 15 (the building no longer exists today).

Albin Nehrlich died on August 3, 1892 at the age of only 47. For two years the business was now run by Nehrlich's widow, Emma, who in 1884 placed the company under the responsibility of their two sons, Gaston and Alfred.

Gaston (1876–1929) was the older of the brothers and had already trained as a printer in Munich and Frankfurt aM . His brother Alfred had studied. On December 31, 1914, 30 years after his mother took over the company, Alfred Nehrlich died. Gaston remained the sole owner, and in April 1917 the company's imprint was given the addition "Gaston and Alfred Nehrlich's heirs".

The main business of the company was, besides the publication of the "Gothaische Tageblatt", an extensive trade in printed matter. In addition, the magazine "Die Landfrau" was published for a short time.

Gaston Nehrlich passed away on February 21, 1929 at the age of 53. After that, the company was still owned by "Gaston and Alfred Nehrlich's heirs". "Rund um Friedenstein" was a popular supplement to the "Gothaischer Tageblatt" that was read by many friends of home.
