Werner Rossade (born December 4, 1930 in Brieg ; † February 20, 2015 in Munich ) was a German political scientist and publicist .

Life

Werner Rossade grew up as the son of a mechanical engineer and a housewife together with a sister 7 years older in the former Piast residence of Brieg an der Oder, then a district town in the Prussian administrative district of Breslau (Lower Silesia), now Brzeg in western Poland. In April 1945, after the city of Brieg had been cleared by the German authorities, the Rossade family was evacuated to Donauwörth in the Bavarian Swabia, where Rossade passed the Abitur in 1950 in the Progymnasium with Realschule, Oberschule under dismantling (today: Gymnasium Donauwörth ). He then studied philosophy and modern philology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Rossade joined the KPD in autumn 1953 . Shortly before the ban on the KPD (1956) in the Federal Republic, Rossade moved to the GDR in 1955 and continued his studies at the Philosophical Institute of the Humboldt University in East Berlin with a focus on aesthetics and cultural theory. He graduated in 1958 with the state examination for a degree in philosopher. After 1958 he was an assistant and doctoral student at the same institute until 1962 (with Professors Wolfgang Heise and Walter Besenbruch ). In 1964, Rossade was awarded a PhD with a thesis on the history and ideology of the SPD's cultural policy. phil. PhD. From 1962 he worked in various cultural and party political institutes outside the university.

Rossade got into increasing difficulties with the SED , which ultimately led to his not returning to the GDR when he received permission in December 1974 to go to Donauwörth to attend his mother's funeral. He only saw his (now divorced) wife and children again after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

After his escape from the GDR, Humboldt University revoked his doctorate from Rossade. This revocation was publicly declared on July 7, 1998 by the President of the Humboldt University in Berlin, Prof. Hans Meyer, as "void and therefore invalid from the start" because of immorality.

In the Federal Republic, Rossade took on research and teaching activities at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute of the LMU Munich , the Ruhr University Bochum and the Free University of Berlin and published regularly in political and cultural studies periodicals.

Focus of work

After fleeing the GDR and returning to the Federal Republic, Rossade focused on the cultural policy of real socialism. The focus of his research was the analysis of the increasing dissociation of the political and intellectual elites in the GDR. His main work is the two-volume work “Literatur im Systemwandel. On the ideological-critical analysis of artistic literature from the GDR ”.
