Wolfgang Heise

Peter Wolfgang Heise (born October 8, 1925 in Berlin ; † April 10, 1987 there ) was a German philosopher who taught utopian philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

Wolfgang Heise's family was persecuted during the Nazi era . His mother had to because of their Jewish ancestry forced labor afford and his father William Heise received because of his wife disbarment . In 1946 his father was the dean of the pedagogical faculty at Berlin University when Heise began studying philosophy there, which he completed in 1952 with a dissertation on Johann Christian Edelmann . In 1963 he completed his habilitation on the subject of “Developmental tendencies in modern bourgeois philosophy in Germany”.

Heise was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences and was honored with the GDR National Prize.

He was married to the literary scholar Rosemarie Heise . Their son Thomas Heise is a well-known documentary filmmaker.

Among the students Heise taught were the later dissidents Rudolf Bahro and Wolf Biermann , who described Heise as “probably the only correct philosopher in the whole of the GDR” when he was subsequently presented with his certificate as a graduate philosopher in 2008 and added that Heise was one of those who clung to Marx's utopia of a liberated society, but at the same time could not cope with the restrictive conditions in the GDR. Biermann sang:

seven Has hated his fatherland
His heart stopped from rebellion
He was my GDR Voltaire,
Because he saw through always
