Wilhelm Heise (pedagogue)

Wilhelm Heise (born March 25, 1897 in Fürstenwalde / Spree ; † March 11, 1949 in Berlin ) was a German literary scholar and educator.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1915, Heise studied German and philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . There he was in 1919 with a thesis on Otto Louis 'Marino Faliero fragments' to Dr. phil. doctorate and passed the state examination for teaching at secondary schools. From 1919 to 1934 he was first a study assistant and then a teacher at the Körner-Oberrealschule Berlin.

In 1934 he was dismissed from school, was banned from writing and lecturing and worked as a private teacher. After the war he became city school councilor and head of the department for public education in Berlin-Steglitz, then head of the school department of the German administration for public education . Together with reform pedagogues such as Heinrich Deiters and Erwin Marquardt or Paul Oestreich , he organized the school reform in the Soviet Zone . In 1946 he became a member of the SED . From 1946 he was associate professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin and dean of the Pedagogical Faculty, from 1947 full professor for general didactics.

From 1947 to 1949 Heise published several volumes in the series Works of World Literature - For the German School . Together with Heinrich Deiters and Erwin Marquardt, he was editor of the pedagogical library of the Volk und Wissen publishing house . In 1948 he was editor-in-chief and publisher of the magazine for German lessons .

Heise also worked as a theater writer, so he published the drama Jesus von Nazareth in 1918 and from 1923 the series Das Drama der Gegenwart. Analysis of contemporary stage works .

His son is the philosopher and art theorist Wolfgang Heise .
